I could see Tampa trading Tyler Johnson to Detroit. Tampa needs to clear cap space. Yzerman drafted Johnson and he has a need for a 2C. He could be a good stop gap until Veleno/Byfield? is ready. Cost likely wouldn't be too high.

You already know what I think about Gerard Gallant and I still do believe he'll be the next head coach of the Red Wings. I think his interviewing with NJ was a smokescreen. He's letting Yzerman know to not take him for granted. Don't just assume he'll wait forever.

As for the Draft, I just can't believe Bettman will allow Detroit to win the draft lottery. But Byfield would fit our need for a stud center. As much as I'd like Lafreniere, my gut won't allow me to get my hopes up. We know we'll once again be screwed. Admit it! 😂 Have fun playing in Ottawa, Alex.

So I'll say Lafreniere goes to Ottawa. He'll be in the NHL next season. Detroit gets Byfield. Return to Junior. Sens get Drysdale. Junior. Kings get Stutzle. Germany. I really hope I'm wrong though!

If there's a compliance buyout allowed, I could see Yzerman buying out Nielsen. Abdelkader sent down to Grand Rapids. Or vice-versa. It doesn't really matter. Abby could always drive the Zamboni but he's not used to moving that fast.

Wings earned a long break anyways.

Lots of work ahead for Yzerman it’ll be painful but patience is all that’s needed. Be nice to see the Wings rise again & make the Atlantic a better division.

Well done sir! I was hoping Yzerman would swing for Johnson. Would have been fun to watch him skate with AA. I have to agree that I won’t let myself believe we’ll get first overall either. I’m marking your answers down. Really well done

It was a bruiser for sure. I’m not sure what this long layoff will do. Hopefully Dekeyser can heal and strengthen. Mantha too. Do some preventative maintenance

Since you said get creative might as well take a walk on the ridiculous.
Draft order 1-Detroit, 2 LA, 3/4 Ottawa.
This is where it gets crazy Detroit trades 1 to Ottawa for 3,4 and a 2nd round pick.
Ottawa takes Lafreniere, LA Byfield and leaving Detroit to take Stutzle and Drysdale.
As far as coaches go Blashill given 2 year deal but Gallant hired as an assistant and the clock on Blashill starts ticking.
Free agent signing if the buyouts happen Martin Jones on a 2 year deal as a back up for Bernier.
It could make for a wild time for sure.

Thanks. I don't expect to be right on any of this. Well except for the Wings getting screwed in the draft lottery. It's still fun to play though.

Is LA moving up to 2, do you think they move up cause of the lottery, cause Ottawa has 2 and 3 right know.

Draft
Alexis Lafreniere DETROIT!! will play in NHL
Quinton Byfield Ottawa will play NHL
Tim Stutzle Ottawa will play Jr
Marco Rossi LA will play Jr

The new coach of the Wings will be Lane Lambert......Gallant is proven, but Lambert learned from the best, Barry Trotz, and Stevie will want a fresh face behind the bench. The only monkey wrench I see happening to this scenero is if Jon Cooper is suddenly available. Which I hope he is not. (Gallent is actually MY 1st choice)
As far as picking up a freeagent off of a Buy-out, I would hope for Tyler Johnson....I believe I have mentioned my wish to acquire him here before. Stevie is very well acquainted with Tyler, and Tyler would no longer be a 4th liner here but most likely be as high as the 2nd line. And hopefully he would be converted from a Wing slayer to a Bolt douser!

Ok, that is a lot of creativity and some fun out of the box stuff. Thanks for that!

I hadn’t thought about Martin Jones, that’s an interesting angle. Stutzle and Drysdale, wow that is pretty cool

Hmm, I think Detroit would settle for all those picks........if offered. Ottawa certainly has the picks to offer without hurting their system. It certainly would give them much needed life to the Wings player developement program!

If Detroit does not receive the 1st pick (and they should) let’s have fun with this.

I say build with Defense; Detroit trades their 2nd or 3rd pick to NJ for their #6 pick and Prospect Michael Vukojeic, and see if you can also grab the #68 spot also from NJ.

Or Detroit trades their 2nd or 3rd pick to Tampa for Cal Foote and their #57 pick.

Buy out has to be Neilson and coach not sure quite yet but i would interview a home town guy like Mike Vellucci.

If Mantha ends up wanting out i move him for young goalie (Jerry or Blackwood) or swift forward.

I had really liked Cal Foot. Kid wears size 15 skates! They had drafted he and his brother but I thought one of them was traded? Defense is brutal for sure. Goalie is a big need too. I like the outside of the box on that!

That’s right, thanks brother! I remember how excited the parents were when both boys were with TBL. That’s the business though. I remember Toews got to play with his brother in the minors, Kronwall’s brother was here for a cup of coffee, Illari Filppula, etc. I think all but one Staal brother have done really well. Must be tough

Tag Bertuzzi is eligible to be drafted in the upcoming draft (Todd's son, Tyler's cousin). He's listed as a center but he can play wing. 6 feet, 200 pounds. 19 years old. I wonder if Yzerman has any interest in him?
